Join Others In Search of Dream Jobs!
What is a Test-Drive Your Dream Job Club?
It is a group organized for the purpose of bringing together genuinely motivated people who are simply not fulfilled in their work, unemployed or are completely burned out in their current jobs and are ready to explore, identify, and pursue their dream jobs.
Members of the club will journey together through the eight-step “vocationing” process outlined in the book Test-Drive Your Dream Job written by Brian Kurth, founder of VocationVacations. They will interact as a strong support network for each other as they determine how to get from Point A to Point B in their quests for their dream jobs and more fulfilling lives.
How Can You Start Your Own Club?
Organizing a Test-Drive Your Dream Job Club is fun and easy. By following the outline below, you can organize your own club and be on your way to discovering what you truly “want to be when you grow up”
Getting Started -Become familiar with the concept of “vocationing” and the eight-step process that the book takes you through. The VocationVacations website (www.vocationvacations.com) is also a good source for background on the actual “test-drive” experience. By understanding the basic concept, you can explain it to others and get them excited about joining the club.
Recruitment -Start recruiting members by talking to your friends and co-workers. Consider posting flyers at gathering places – i.e. coffee houses, civic organizations, churches, play groups, libraries, health clubs, etc. You may want to place an ad near the help-wanted section of your newspaper’s classifieds or submit articles to newsletters you receive. Get creative in thinking about how to reach like-minded dream job seekers.
Number of members -The size of the club should be small enough so everyone can actively participate and large enough that the quality of the meeting is not compromised if a member or two is not able to attend a meeting. Suggested membership – minimum of four and maximum of 12.
Meeting Place/Time -The meeting place should be determined by the number of members. You can take turns gathering at members’ homes. However, get commitment upfront for a schedule of home meeting places. If this does not work or the group is too large, consider meeting at a coffee house, restaurant or community center. Be consistent with the location if you choose this route. Also, be consistent with the day and time and be sure all the members are in agreement – i.e. every Thursday from 7 – 8 p.m; 7 – 8 a.m., etc.
Set Expectations -Every member should agree to be prepared to discuss the “vocationing” topic assigned for each meeting. The eight chapters in the book will provide you a topic outline to follow. If you determine there is to be a leader for every meeting, those assignments should be made at the beginning of the eight-step process. If outside professional input is agreed upon relative to any of the topics, a member should be assigned the responsibility of securing that person.
Test-Drive Your Dream Job Clubs provide a defined process and an interactive support group for exploring your dream job. By sharing insights, experiences, challenges and discoveries, members realize they are not alone in their quest for personal and professional fulfillment. It is an exciting journey…..enjoy the ride!
