Capps has literally done it all in his 26 years of working in media. His news experience includes being a reporter, bureau chief, weekend anchor and executive sports director. Every ounce of his courage and skill were put to the test during his time with CNN, however, where he covered major news stories including the Gulf War, the Midwest Floods, the over throw of the Haitian Government and the siege at Waco. And yet, baseball was always in the back of Mike’s mind.

Capps grew up in Texas playing baseball and attended several major-league tryouts. During this time he became friends with Red Murff, the scout best known for discovering Nolan Ryan. Mike did part-time scouting for Murff during the late 80’s and early 90’s. They reunited in 1996 to co-author “The Scout: Searching for the Best in Baseball”. During the book promotion at Anaheim Stadium, Capps was moved to ask Bob Starr, the voice of the Angels, “Am I too old to get started into broadcasting?” “Just how old are you” Bob replied.“Forty”. “You are still a pup, Capps!”, Bob exclaimed. That’s all it took for Mike to follow his heart!

For the past nine years, Mike has been living his 2nd career, dream-job bringing play-by-play to thousands of baseball fans. Mike is the only radio voice the Express has known during its seven years in Round Rock, TX. He has found a way to turn baseball into a career and doesn’t imagine himself doing anything else.

While on this Sports Broadcaster VocationVacations adventure, Mike will mentor you in some or all of the following:

  • Study the various nuances and statistics of the players for pre-game preparation
  • Assist in conducting pre and post game player interviews
  • Learn all the ins/outs of the press box operations
  • Participate in the broadcast of the game on AM radio
  • Learn how to weave in personal player stories while announcing the game
  • Understand the different styles of delivery that create a captivating broadcast for the listeners
  • Opportunity to meet and mingle with the management team and the players

The Radio Sports Broadcaster VocationVacations holiday includes:
