Have you always dreamed of a career that would let you utilize your creative side? Do you get excited about patterns, textures, and coming up with new looks for old spaces? If so, you’ve probably thought about becoming an interior designer. Then it’s time to head to Morristown, New Jersey (only one hour from Manhattan) where expert designer Rose Gong Monier of Ormolu Home will mentor you in your dream job.

Rose started out as a waitress. But she knew she wanted something a bit more creative. She explored her talents through adult education classes for about a year before deciding, at 28, to go back to school to get a Fine Arts Degree at Parsons School of Design.

In Rose’s senior year, she was offered a full-time job at Ralph Lauren. She initially declined it because she had made a commitment to finish her degree. Then she thought to herself, “You just turned down a major company! Who do you think you are?!” She quickly called back and offered them 20 hours a week while they looked for someone full-time. Balancing her new career with her 20 credit hours and senior thesis was not easy, but she made it happen and her hard work and determination certainly paid off.

Since becoming a professional designer in the early 90s, Rose has held senior executive positions at Ralph Lauren Home Collection and Bergdorf Goodman. In addition to creating one of the Top Ten selling dinnerware patterns for the bridal market in the USA, she was also awarded two United States Design Patents for flatware. Rose was also responsible for the creation of the Polo Sport men’s fragrance bottle and packaging design. She has worked on countless interior design projects including the private residences of Ralph Lauren and has done some magazine editorial for House Beautiful.

But then 9/11 occurred. It was a reflective time. The perfect time to combine Rose’s creativity and experience with her entrepreneurial spirit -- and to live life to its fullest. She decided to start her own business. Ormolu Home (named after an ornate decorative French furniture process developed in the 1700’s) has an eclectic mix of designer furniture, vintage fabrics, and decorative accessories and offers a menu interior design services.
She believes that art is all about communication and stresses that one needs to perfect a balance between the two. Her philosophy is that, “If you do not have set, pre-determined ideas, its better because then you do not have a box to fight your way out of.” Rose also loves mentoring. In addition to taking on a summer intern every year, she also spends countless hours helping young adults preparing themselves and their portfolios for entry into art school.

During your VocationVacations® dream job holiday, Rose will lead you through some or all of the following Interior Designer activities:
  • Participate in client meetings and/or client briefings
  • Learn how to design lifestyle concepts based on client interviews
  • Determine scope of project and establish lifestyle direction
  • Day trip to New York City
  • Learn how to analyze and plan a space by working with scale drawings
  • Participate in configuring furniture
  • Research fabrics and appropriate window treatments
  • Create client presentation
The Ormolu Home VocationVacations® holiday includes:

A VocationVacation cannot be rescheduled and is non-refundable if cancelled within 14 days of the scheduled VocationVacations holiday. Written notification of cancellation or rescheduling is required in all cases. Grounded Nomads, LLC dba VocationVacations encourages all customers to acquire travel insurance to cover any unforeseen expenses due to cancellation or rescheduling.
