Blue Point Brewing Company, Long Island’s only brewing company, is truly a dream come true for Peter Cotter and long-time friend, Mark Burford. They always dreamed of making their avocation their vocation by following their brewing passions. The brewery, founded in 1998, now produces 10,000 kegs of beer per year. Their unique direct-fire brick brew kettle imparts a lightly toasted, complex taste to produce an extremely fresh line of ultra-premium microbrews.  Blue Point Brewing Company is committed to producing beers that are all natural, un-pasteurized and, above all, fresh.  

The Blue Point Brewing Company won international recognition last year when two of its beers claimed medals during the prestigious World Beer Cup Gala Awards Ceremony in San Diego, California. Competitors hailed from 392 breweries and 40 countries, and the 93 judges came from 15 of the most respected beer-making countries in the world.

 

How Pete and Mark went from “brewing in a bathtub” to gaining global recognition is the epitome of what “following your dream” is all about: two buddies who wanted to make the kind of beer that they wanted to drink and set out to do just that! On a shoestring budget (with friends who offered them money to buy suits to interview for “real jobs”), they doggedly pursued their passion.  While raising cash, Pete worked construction and Mark took a job in a fish store, saving every cent, finding investors and maxing out their credit cards. They built a rare assemblage of equipment collected from breweries all around the United States and then found a building large enough to hold it all.

 

With an original target market of “Montauk to Manhattan,” Blue Point beers have surpassed that goal and are now sold or served at over 500 locations in five states throughout most of the Northeast. Pete and Mark exude the Vocationing lifestyle – they’ve combined their avocation and their passions to create a successful and profitable business for themselves. Way to go, Mark and Pete!

While Vocationing at the Blue Point Brewing Company, Brew Master Mark and his crew will mentor you in some or all of the following activities:

  • Raw Material Evaluation
  • Recipe Check
  • Getting Started – Mashing In
  • Mixing the hops into the wort
  • Pitching yeast into the fermenter
  • Conducting lab work (look at those lil' critters under the microscope!)
  • Keg Filling
  • Sparging
  • Bottling
  • TASTING the rewards of your hard day's labor while discussing business operations, including sales and marketing strategies
  • Working the Tasting Room

The Brew Master VocationVacation® Holiday at Blue Point  includes:

  • Two days of one-on-one mentorship in your dream job
  • The ability to take the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®), an online personality assessment designed to identify interests and skill sets
  • The opportunity to participate in a total of one hour of pre- and post-VocationVacation career coaching from an accredited, affiliated VocationVacations career coach
  • A pocket-size VocationVacations journal so you can document your dream job becoming a reality
  • Light lunches with your mentor

Reservation, Cancellation and Rescheduling Rules and Conditions:
A $100 non-refundable fee is assessed if a VocationVacations experience is cancelled or rescheduled prior to 14-days of the scheduled VocationVacations holiday, based on the approved availability of the mentor to reschedule. A VocationVacation cannot be rescheduled and is non-refundable if cancelled within 14 days of the scheduled VocationVacations holiday. Written notification of cancellation or rescheduling is required in all cases.  Grounded Nomads, LLC dba VocationVacations encourages all customers to acquire travel insurance to cover any unforeseen expenses due to cancellation or rescheduling.
