Would you rather spend your days with a team of dogs than a department full of suits? Has your thirst for adventure in work life gone unquenched? Does the idea of fresh snow on your face and wind blowing through your hair sound like a refreshing change? Then it’s time to work your dream job for three days with Dogsled Racer, Dog Rescuer and Dog Kennel owner, Zoya Denure, at Crazy Dog Mushing Kennel to learn the joys of owning your own dog kennel and sled team! Zoya’s journey to Alaska and the world of dog sled racing is quite fascinating. After growing up in Wisconsin, Zoya spent 12 years as an international model, flying all over the world in high fashion. After deciding to move back to Wisconsin, Zoya bought a dog - a Siberian Huskie named Ethan. After seeing dogs pull huge amounts of weight in a pull-competition, Zoya was hooked. Amazed by the incredible relationship between the dogs and their owners, she researched and found a woman sprint musher with 75 dogs in northern Wisconsin. She had found her mentor! After several months of mentoring, Zoya moved out to the country, bought 16 dogs and began training on a four mile course in the Wisconsin farmland. Zoya was thrilled by the new changes in her life, and in 2001 decided to take the big plunge to live her dream-job lifestyle. So she picked up and moved to Alaska, preparing to become a full-fledged dogsled racer and kennel owner. She found a mentor in Iditarod musher Bill Cotter, who taught her much of what she needed to know. Zoya now has a team of 45 dogs, 25 of whom she rescued. She continually races her dogs, placing in many well-known races and is now training to run the legendary Iditarod. Zoya says her dogs are always #1 for her and her husband, John, winner of the famous Yukon Quest. Zoya’s diverse background and her ability to follow her dreams and make a major career change (with the help of a few carefully-chosen guides) make her the perfect VocationVacations Mentor!
