Do you want to be a winemaker?

Do you love the food-and-wine lifestyle? Want to learn more about the philosophy, passion and art behind winemaking? Have you always dreamed of owning your own vineyard and turning it into something that, through all your hard work, others can enjoy?

Then here is your opportunity to expand your knowledge about one of the oldest and most fascinating art forms in the world at one of the leading wineries on the east coast of the US. Winemaker and General Manager Roman Roth and Vineyard Manager Richard Pisacano look forward to welcoming you at Wölffer Estate Vineyard, an American Winery in the classic European tradition.

Founded in 1987 and owned by Hamburg-born Christian Wölffer, Wölffer Estate Vineyard is comprised of 55-acres and a winery located between Southampton and Easthampton, New York – right in the heart of the luxurious resort communities affectionately knows as “The Hamptons.” It is an American winery but with decidedly European character, both in its spirit and its wines. Through the vision of Christian Wölffer and the meticulous care of his professional team, these former potato fields have become the foundation for world-class wines, producing more than 13,000 cases annually!

Under Roman Roth’s talented care, Wölffer Estate wines embody the region as well as a classical style of winemaking, with a rich concentration of fruit and lively acidity born of the unique terroir of these Sagaponack vineyards, similar in some respects to conditions in Bordeaux. In fact, it is the condition of the local soil, called Bridgehampton loam (a by-product of the glacial moraine that formed Long Island) that provides a perfect host for grapevines.

The German-born Roth, together with his American vineyard manager, Pisacano, spare no effort or expense in tending to the vineyards and grape production, all to exploit the full potential of the terroir and microclimate, which is constantly bathed in cooler breezes from the Atlantic Ocean, only 2.6 miles away. It is this winning combination of climate and soil that ensures the ripeness and acidity necessary for producing elegant wines.

Be prepared to roll up your sleeves on this one-of-a-kind VocationVacations experience – Roman intends to put you to work (and if you’re lucky, maybe you’ll even get to hear him sing!)

Here's what a recent Vocationer has to say about their VocationVacation:

“Roman Roth exudes passion for his work and excels at making great wines that are putting the Long Island wine region on the map.  Spending two days with Roman confirmed for me that, career-wise, I need to be around people who love what they do and make a difference doing it.”
