Tim and Connie are both corporate refugees. Tim is a native Texan and Connie is a native Northern Californian. The two met while they were both living in California in 2001. As they got to know one another there was one thing that Tim failed to disclose to Connie - native Texans always ends up back in Texas! So when he was laid off from his job in California the only obvious thing for Tim to do was to move back to the Lone Star State! Connie, ready for a lifestyle change herself, agreed to the move. 

 

While considering their options back in Texas, the thought of opening a bed and breakfast crossed their minds. They knew that Fredericksburg was the B & B capital of Texas, with more than ten million people within a three-hour drive. And Tim grew up in the restaurant business, so he was very familiar with good, down-home hospitality. And since both were former business executives, they knew a thing or two about meeting the bottom line of a business model.  So, then all they needed was the right inn! After an eleven week search, they were able to purchase the Town Creek Bed & Breakfast - and the rest is history. The inn was so successful from the get-go that the Gikas’ were able to purchase the property next door within six months and turn it into what is now known as Sydney’s cottage! 

 

Even with their success, Tim and Connie experienced a bit of a learning-curve for innkeeping (they will share their lessons learned with you). But they have focused on their natural strengths to achieve ongoing success. Tim is a fantastic chef and handles most of the cooking, while Connie charms the guests and manages operations. Reviews of Tim’s cooking have been so good that he is in the process of writing the Town Creek Bed and Breakfast Cookbook

 

While on your VocationVacations® dream job holiday, you will be mentored and participate in some or all of the following activities:

  • Guest check-in process
  • Breakfast planning, preparation and serving
  • Food supplies purchasing
  • Guest check-out process
  • Guest services
  • Sales, marketing (including Internet, regional and local) and public relations
  • Forecasting techniques
  • Understanding innkeeping profit/loss
  • Housekeeping and room inspections
  • Quality assurance

  • Two days of one-on-one mentorship in your dream job as a bed & breakfast owner
  • The opportunity to participate in a total of one hour of pre- and post-VocationVacation career coaching from an accredited, affiliated VocationVacations career coach
  • A pocket-size VocationVacations journal so you can document your dream job becoming a reality
  • Light lunches with your mentor

A $100 non-refundable fee is assessed if a VocationVacations experience is cancelled or rescheduled prior to 14-days of the scheduled VocationVacations holiday, based on the approved availability of the mentor to reschedule. A VocationVacations adventure cannot be rescheduled and is non-refundable if cancelled within 14 days of the scheduled VocationVacations holiday. Written notification of cancellation or rescheduling is required in all cases. In the US, Grounded Nomads, LLC and VocationVacations holidays encourage all customers to acquire travel insurance to cover any unforeseen expenses due to cancellation or rescheduling.
