Do you have ideas of cooking full-time as your dream job. Wish you could take it to the next level and actually get paid for your culinary creativity? Then maybe a stint with Chef Dave Shakin of The Heights Bistro and Bar is just what you need.
“For those who love it, cooking is at once child’s play and adult joy. Cooking done with care is an act of love,” so said New York Times Food Critic, Craig Claiborne. He could well have been talking about Chef Dave Shakin!
A graduate of the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, Dave has over thirty years of comprehensive experience as part of the Westchester/New York City dining scene. With a commitment to bringing fresh, seasonal ingredients paired in unique and creative ways, his distinctive style draws from a wide variety of ethnic cuisines.
The Heights takes pride in presenting fabulous menu items, most of which have been made “from scratch” right on the premises. They make their own potato chips, their own ravioli, and they smoke their own salmon. They wouldn’t dream of serving bottled salad dressings or canned soups. They bake their own breads, muffins and focaccia. And all of their desserts, including their signature sorbets, are house-made. The New York Times gave David and the Heights Bistro & Bar a "Very Good" rating in December 2005 and added: "David Shakin, chef and co-owner, still has the fine touch we remember from our first taste of his dishes 20 years ago."
A cozy restaurant, which seats 70 in the main dining room, 18 in their quaint bar area and another 24 in the outside courtyard, The Heights is open for Lunch, Dinner and Sunday Brunch, and is often the site of parties and special events. You will have the opportunity to learn about great food, paired with their extensive wine list and boutique beers. Join the Heights team, helping to prepare meals where Chef Shakin promises, “vibrant flavors playing off the classics that have depth and most importantly, a degree of fun.” On your Chef VocationVacations® dream job holiday, you will have the opportunity to do some or all of the following:
