Well, OK, it’s not that perfect – there’d also be early hours, hard work and constant company and activity. But, if you’ve ever dreamed about owning a Bed & Breakfast, here’s your chance to take your dream for a test-drive. Check in with VocationVacations B&B Mentor Barbara Dau, owner of Arch Cape House in beautiful Arch Cape, Oregon.

Barbara Dau has a passion for running Arch Cape House (formerly called St. Bernard’s).  Originally from Chicago, Barbara became a science teacher and chemist…and a Mom. Years later the technology bust in California left Barbara searching in new directions. Hmmmm…being a B&B Owner would be interesting, she thought!  Barbara purchased Arch Cape House in 2003. 

Why be a VocationVacations Mentor?  “Because,” laughs Barbara, “I just plowed ahead, but it would have been SO helpful to see how it’s done prior to purchasing the inn!”  Barbara adds, “Innkeepers don’t have your typical job – all the pieces need to come together at the same time – and I enjoy passing my experience on to others.”

Nestled in the woods just a short drive from charming Cannon Beach, this tasteful upscale inn offers great food and sumptuous comfort. Guests love elegant antique-filled rooms (most with an ocean view), floral gardens, scrumptious gourmet breakfasts and the quaint walk to a nearby white sand beach. A unique combination of cozy comfort and stunning detail, Arch Cape House is, above all things, a tranquil spot – for sitting in the sun, soaking in the Jacuzzi, enjoying a glass of wine or just curling up in front of the fire.

During your Bed & Breakfast VocationVacations® dream job holiday, Barbara Dau of Arch Cape House will lead you through some or all of the following innkeeper-related activities:
  • Preparing & serving breakfast
  • Guest check-in and check-out
  • Managing the property and its many physical operations
  • Purchasing supplies and food
  • Quality assurance
  • Sales & Marketing
  • Preparing hors d'oeuvres and setting up social hour
  • Preparing for breakfast the next day
The Innkeeper VocationVacations® dream job holiday includes:
  • One day (afternoon/evening on Day 1 and morning on Day 2) of one-on-one mentorship in your dream job as an Innkeeper
  • The opportunity to participate in a total of one hour of pre- and post-VocationVacation career coaching from an accredited, affiliated VocationVacations career coach
  • A pocket-size VocationVacations journal so you can document your dream job becoming a reality
  • Light lunches with your mentor

Full payment of the VocationVacations dream job holiday is required to make a reservation. A $100 non-refundable fee is assessed if a VocationVacations experience is cancelled or rescheduled prior to 14-days of the scheduled VocationVacations holiday, based on the approved availability of the mentor to reschedule. A VocationVacations adventure cannot be rescheduled and is non-refundable if cancelled within 14 days of the scheduled VocationVacations holiday. Written notification of cancellation or rescheduling is required in all cases. In the US, Grounded Nomads, LLC and VocationVacations holidays encourage all customers to acquire travel insurance to cover any unforeseen expenses due to cancellation or rescheduling. In the UK, Grounded Nomads, Ltd and VocationVacations holidays must require all customers to acquire travel insurance to cover any unforeseen expenses due to cancellation or rescheduling and provide verification of such travel insurance to Grounded Nomads, Ltd.
