Well, here is your chance to test-drive your dream job in one of the “Music Capitals of the World” – Austin, Texas.  David Murray, a long-time Austin musician, songwriter, producer and owner of Murray Music, has the perfect setting to get your hands off the laptop and onto the sound boards.  

David Murray grew up playing R&B in Austin.  His talent quickly took him on the road with such greats as Kelly Willis, Doyle Bramhall, and “Long Tall” Marcia Ball.  David has recorded on numerous independent and major record labels.  He has performed on the PBS hit show Austin City Limits as lead guitarist with the likes of Kelly, Marcia and Monte Warden.  Playing guitar is very special to David. “I realize my talent is a true gift, and I am thankful for this gift every time I pick up my guitar,” says David.

David opened Murray Music in 1995.  Located in downtown Austin, Murray Music is the place to compose and record original background music, songs and sound effects for films, documentaries and advertising.  David’s compositions range from songs for MTV’s “colorful” Beavis & Butthead to a variety of artists such as Sara Hamman and Michael Cross.  (An album of songs co-written by David will be released by Michael Cross, summer 2007.).  “Co-writing songs with other artists is a wonderful creative process where the flow of ideas just happens,” describes David.  For David, the end product is what inspires him.  “I find inspiration in hearing our work and ideas reflected back, fueling the next round of song.”

  • Compose and record background music, songs and sound effects for visuals (for 30-60 second TV advertising spots)
  •  Learn and review the basics of audio recording
  • Record and produce voiceover and/or musical CD’s
  • Pen song lyrics
  • Write a score
  • Record demo of your song with live, professional musicians in-studio
  • Thursday night out to hear David’s band perform at the infamous “Broken Spoke” – where most everyone who is anyone has performed
  • Visit other musical venues in Austin
