Do you dream of buying an old historic house in an historic, natural setting and turning it into a Bed & Breakfast? Few homes or locations can boast more history than the Lightner Farmhouse in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

Just one year after being built in 1862, the Lightner home played an important role in our nation's history during the Battle of Gettysburg when it served as a field hospital for the Union Army. Located behind the Northern battle line, it provided a welcome refuge for weary and wounded soldiers of the Union First Corps.

Today, the Lightner Farmhouse serves as a welcome retreat for weary travelers visiting Gettysburg. Innkeepers Eileen and Dennis Hoover enjoy the variable schedule that owning a B&B allows, and love meeting guests of all ages, interests and backgrounds. Eileen has a background in history and manages the staff and front desk. Dennis works behind the scenes applying his expertise in maintenance, gardening and cooking. Their goal is to give exceptional service to each guest. With a very personal approach to innkeeping, they believe each guest who enters the front door is a prospective friend.

Eileen, Dennis, and their qualified staff will mentor you in some or all of the following:

• Plan and prepare breakfast
• Plan and prepare snacks
• Shop for food and supplies
• Make reservations by phone
• Check guests in and out
• Manage the property and its many physical operations
• Learn the history of the property and the Gettysburg area
• Housekeeping and room inspections
• Sales and marketing
• Quality assurance
• Guest services

The Lightner Farmhouse Innkeeper VocationVacations® adventure includes:

• Two days of one-on-one mentorship in your dream job as an Innkeeper
• The opportunity to participate in a total of one hour of pre- and post-VocationVacation career coaching from an accredited, affiliated VocationVacations career coach
• A pocket-size VocationVacations journal so you can document your dream job becoming a reality
• Light lunches with your mentor
• Breakfasts (may be a bit “on the fly” after the guests have had theirs) and lunches
