Growing up near Chicago, Steve had always been drawn to ranch life, working on several dude and cattle ranches in his teens and 20s. Once he married his wife, June, the two decided to permanently put up stakes on their very own cattle ranch on 45,000 acres of land just south of Republic, Washington. After raising five children on their sprawling land, they began to notice cattle profits declining. Always the innovators, the Konz family decided to open up their land and their homes, transforming their idyllic cattle ranch into the guest ranch it is today.

The ranch is still family-owned and operated with each of June and Steve’s five children lending a hand in keeping the ranch running smoothly. As you might expect, the ranch still has that “family feel,” with guests staying in the old family home, a log lodge with four spacious sleeping rooms. Guests also get to know each other during family-style dinners around a large communal table in the lodge dining room. The Konz family makes sure every guest is well taken care of. They also provide horses that fit each guest’s level of experience and give plenty of lessons to put everyone at ease. They also invite their guests to join in the typical ranch activities, but give them the freedom to explore their rambling acreage on their own by fishing, hunting, riding or just plain relaxing.

While on your VocationVacations dream job holiday, Steve and the Konz Family will mentor you in some or all of the following activities:

• Guest inquires/bookings
• Meal prepartion with chef
• Organize/host hayrides, barbecues, trail rides and campfires
• Work with cattle
• Sales/marketing for a dude ranch
• Housekeeping duties
• Discuss ranch start-up
• Learn about ranch safety
• Discuss services/activities to provide
• Work with crew making repairs on property as needed

The K Diamond K VocationVacation® holiday includes: 

• Three days of one-on-one mentorship in your dream job
• The opportunity to participate in a total of one hour of pre- and post-VocationVacation career coaching from an accredited, affiliated VocationVacations career coach
• A pocket-size VocationVacations journal so you can document your dream job becoming a reality
• Light lunches with your mentor
