Are you the person at social events carrying the camera around your neck? Do you disappear into the surroundings just so you can capture those candid shots without your friends or family ever noticing? Are you happiest when presenting a keepsake to your loved ones documenting their special moments? Then it may be time for you to explore a career in photography on a VocationVacations® dream job holiday with photographer, Jensen Sutta.

When Jensen was just seven years old and on his way to Disneyland, his grandparents gave him a gift - his very first camera. He fondly remembers the excitement he felt racing to the store to pick up that envelope of pictures. He never dreamed he could make a career of something that brought such enjoyment.

While earning his degree in biology at the University of Richmond, Jensen took a couple of photography classes and fell in love with this dream career. That’s when Jensen’s life took a bit of a turn. He was on a photography field trip traveling in a 16-passenger van when a tragic accident occurred, and the van rolled over six times into the woods. Jensen and others suffered serious injuries. After a year of recovering, Jensen decided life was too short to do something he didn’t love. He called on a few local photographers and offered a free pair of hands. In return, Jensen received hands-on experience and great advice: obtain some formal education.

Jensen moved to Santa Barbara and enrolled in the Brooks Institute of Photography where he completed the masters program. He jumped right into the world of professional photography, interning with two world-renowned wedding photographers. He spent time in New York City with Andy Marcus and then in Los Angeles with Joe Buissink.

While working towards his masters, many of Jensen’s friends were getting married, and he found himself having a great time capturing the special moments of the day. Whether his photos are candid, behind the scenes (his favorite), or formal portrait sessions, he always enjoys presenting the bride and groom with a treasured, one-of-a-kind keepsake, and simply being part of one of the most important days of their lives.

When asked the secret to success in the world of photography, Jensen simply replies, “You have to be a people-person. If they like you, they’ll like your work…taking the photograph is only 20% of the job.” He strives to make his clients happy and recognizes they want something different, something special, so he has created products to meet these demands. From elegant photo purses and handbags to custom photo jewelry to water color thank-you cards, Jensen creates one-of-a-kind specialty items for his clients.

While two-thirds of Jensen’s business comes from weddings, he also has expanded into family portraits, corporate events, film festivals and political fund-raising events. He enjoys working with Young America’s Foundation where he photographs high profile speakers at the historic ranch once owned by President Ronald Reagan. One of Jensen’s favorite activities is working with the Dream Foundation, which grants wishes to terminally ill adults. Jensen loves being part of a “dream trip” and recording it all on his camera. He also teaches a class at the Colorado Institute of Art.

Over the years, Jensen has been privileged to work with many well-known companies including: Paramount Pictures, Polaroid Corporation, Hilton Hotels Worldwide, and Ford Motor Company. Some other notables include: Leonardo DiCaprio, Jay Leno, Brad Garrett, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Steven Spielberg…just to name a few. His images have been published in L.A. Confidential Magazine, Robb Report, Santa Barbara Magazine, Rangefinder Magazine, Santa Barbara Newspress, Montecito Journal, Hampton's Magazine, Santa Barbara Independent, and Wedding Celebrations Magazine.
