Have you thought about giving it all up and moving to the country to live a simpler life? Think that the hustle and bustle of city life is going to drive you over the edge? John Ivanko and Lisa Kivirist know how you feel. They left the wild ride of corporate life, moved to the country and built a self-sustaining lifestyle business - and love it. And now John and Lisa are ready to mentor you in your very own dream-job VocationVacations holiday as an earth-friendly, self-sustaining Innkeeper!
John and Lisa gave up their corporate lives and moved to the hill-country near Monroe, Wisconsin in 1996. Both had worked for one of the world’s largest advertising agencies based in Chicago but found that the “treadmill of corporate life” was leaving them feeling empty at the end of the day. They looked at the world around them and realized that they needed to put their values to work for themselves and future generations – thus began Inn Serendipity.
After purchasing the house and land, John and Lisa brought the land back to its natural state…encouraging native animals to forage on the property by planting native trees and plants. By 2003 the inn was working on 100% renewable energy with a wind turbine and photoelectric system. John and Lisa have built a relaxed, rural-renaissance lifestyle business that respects nature, is eco-friendly and strives for building sustainability. They serve vegetarian and vegan meals with produce grown on the inn’s land. The inn is a quiet refuge where guests can do their own thing. They can wander the property to see all of the wild birds and animals, engage in a llama stare-down (doesn’t every inn have its own llama!?) or use the inn as a home-base to take-in the rolling countryside, cheese factories and other sites around Monroe.
