Dean is a product of the 60’s. To the point that he even hitchhiked, drove a VW bus and ultimately a motorcycle across America! After some years of fun travel and life-exploration, Dean landed in Laguna Beach, California at the age of 22 with just a bag of clothes and his motorcycle. Rather quickly he found what he thought would just be a short-term job at a clock shop. But something happened. The owner of the shop became a mentor for Dean….and Dean, the apprentice. Dean felt a “calling” (OK, maybe it was actually a clock chime or even a coo-coo!). After years of travel, Dean says, “I found my real passion - restoring beautiful, antique clocks!”

After a few years of working with clocks, Dean decided he really needed to get serious about his work….and attain his credentials. He was yearning for more. So he and his wife temporarily moved all the way from California to West Sussex, England so he could attend the West Dean College for clock restoration. After graduation with the highest grades possible, they returned to California and Dean really put his acumen to the test and opened his very own antique clock restoration retail store and workshop.

Although he will, on occasion, take newer clocks, Dean absolutely loves working with clocks from the 18th and 19th centuries. He finds it to be a total challenge to take apart, reassemble and be ingenious about getting a clock to work properly once again. It’s art. It’s mechanics. It’s his passion. Who would have guessed 30+ years ago while he was travailing across America in a VW bus!?

While on your Clock Restorer VocationVacations® dream job holiday, Dean will mentor you in some or all of the following activities:

• Evaluation of condition of movement (what repairs are necessary)
• Disassembly of movement
• Initial cleaning of parts
• Polishing pivots
• Identifying bearings that might need a bushing
• Complete the bushing process
• Final cleaning of parts
• Re-assembly of clock movement
• Testing and timing of completed repair
• Customer Relations
• Supply Chain management
• Marketing and Business Development - keeping the funnel full!

The Clock Restorer VocationVacations® dream job holiday includes:

• Two days of one-on-one mentorship in your dream job as a Clock Restorer
• The opportunity to participate in a total of one hour of pre- and post-VocationVacation career coaching from an accredited, affiliated VocationVacations career coach
• A pocket-size VocationVacations journal so you can document your dream job becoming a reality
• Light lunches with your mentor
