Meet Lecia Duke – a real-life chocolatier who has seen her art inspire love, tolerance and change – one truffle at a time! 

 

An architect by training, but a chocolatier by heart, Lecia has been creating chocolate magic for over twenty years. Unbeknownst to Lecia, her move from Bainbridge Island, WA to Fredericksburg, TX was an amazing parallel with the movie “Chocolat.”

 

In 1998, as a single-mom, she packed up her young daughter Jesse and took off for a small German-settled town in the heart of Texas “Hill Country.” She was destined to open a retail chocolate shop and named it Chocolat reflecting her French heritage. At the time this was not a very popular name in the German-settled town, but the chocolate endured and the magic happens daily! In fact, Chocolat was one of eight chocolatiers featured in Southern Living’s 2005 Weekend Living special issue.

 

When you visit Lecia’s store, the glass and wooden front door will stick a bit – just like the movie. Once inside, you will find delicate hand-made European-style truffles, barks, nut clusters and many other fine specialty confections affectionately displayed in antique glass cases. You will be mesmerized by the smells, the sights and the transformational magic of chocolate! While vocationing, you will work with Lecia and her capable team in some or all of the following:

  • Learn how to make a variety of European-style truffles, barks, nut clusters and fine specialty confections
  • Participate in tempering, mixing and dipping of chocolate
  • Decorate a variety of hand-made confections
  • Package and create effective presentations for the confections
  • Receive an overview of the operations and ins and outs of owning a retail chocolate store
  • Taste the sweet rewards of your labor!

The Chocolatier VocationVacations experience includes:

  • Two days of one-on-one mentorship in your dream job as a Chocolatier
  • The opportunity to participate in a total of one hour of pre- and post-VocationVacation career coaching from an accredited, affiliated VocationVacations career coach
  • A pocket-size VocationVacations journal so you can document your dream job becoming a reality
  • Light lunches with your mentor
