Brian Petro is a Washington DC self-taught artist originally from rural central Pennsylvania. Several years after graduating and practicing in his trained medical field, he decided to pursue his passion of creating artworks. His work is varied and falls into 4 broad categories: fine art, fine art commissions, photographic work and commercial design. During his career, he has been commissioned by Absolut Vodka to be a part of their international advertising campaign, designed artworks and logos for Ritz-Carlton Hotels, and has had his work utilized by Saks Fifth Avenue. His work is collected internationally, most recently acquired for collections in England, Venezuela, and Brazil. He even made a recent appearance on HGTV’s “Curb Appeal,” as a guest artist/painter.

Brian works in is own studio in Washington DC, plus on location for photographic projects. His fine art and photography is shown and sold through venues across the US, including galleries in Washington, DC, Philadelphia, New York, and New Orleans.

During your Professional Artist VocationVacation, Brian Petro, will mentor you as you test-drive two days in the life of an artist. Depending on what projects Brian has in the works during your VocationVacation, you will get to participate in some or all of the following activities:

Artistry:

• Techniques in fine art, photography and/or commercial art
• Trip to buy materials and/or find them from dumpsters
• Create your own piece with mentor’s guidance (that you will get to take home with you)

Successful Marketing:

• Overview of how to successfully market your art
• How to create a successful website
• How to market to clients, galleries, press, etc.
• Promoting locally, nationally and globally

Finding Your Niche:

• How to create a unique identity for yourself and stand out from the crowd
• Finding your strengths and acknowledging your weaknesses
• Work ethic and how to manage business and creativity

The “Art of Business”:

• Learn the importance of documenting your work and most useful method
• How to network effectively
• Dealing with contracts and negotiations
• Client meetings
• Working with agents or reps
• Being an agent or rep
• How to work with others
• Dealing with deadlines
• How to turn your creative ideas into profitable products

The Professional Artist VocationVacations® holiday includes:

• Two days of one-on-one mentorship in your dream job as a Professional Artist
• The opportunity to participate in a total of one hour of pre- and post-VocationVacation career coaching from an accredited, affiliated VocationVacations career coach
