Does your heart break every time you see a news report about an abandoned dog or cat? Do you wish the world were a safer place for all animals? Do you dream of working at the animal shelter to do your part? Then break out of the office and into the world of protecting your four-legged friends! Michelle Rivera, the Executive Director of Animals 101, wants to share her passion for the humane treatment of animals, animal therapy and running a not-for-profit organization with you.
As part of Animals 101, Michelle and her staff bring animals to local schools and organizations to help educate children and adults in respecting, caring-for and owning pets. They also work with therapy animals that visit the elderly in nursing homes and children in the hospital.
Michelle enjoys mentoring others and helping people in other communities start not-for profit programs dedicated to the health and welfare of animals. She has authored two books: “Hospice Hounds, Animals and Healing at the Borders of Death” and “Canines in the Classroom – Raising Humane Children through Interactions with Animals”. Michelle is also certified by the Delta Society – the leading animal therapist certification organization.
While on your VocationVacations adventure with Michelle at Animals 101 you will be involved in some or all of the following activities:
- Visit classrooms to bring humane education to students
- Visit summer camps to bring humane education to campers
- Instruct children and adults in animal care
- Instruct children and adults in dog bite prevention
- Instruct on various animal cruelty topics
- Assist in therapy animal evaluation
- Assist in workshops for law enforcement
- Visit nursing home with therapy dog
- Discuss business aspect of starting a non-profit
The Animal Therapist & Educator VocationVacations® Holiday includes:
- One day of one-on-one mentorship in your dream job
- The ability to take the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®), an online personality assessment designed to identify interests and skill sets
- The opportunity to participate in a total of one hour of pre- and post-VocationVacation career coaching from an accredited, affiliated VocationVacations career coach
- A pocket-size VocationVacations journal so you can document your dream job becoming a reality
- Light lunches with your mentor

Reservation, Cancellation and Rescheduling Rules and Conditions:
Full payment of the
VocationVacations dream job holiday is required to make a reservation.
A $100 non-refundable fee is assessed if a VocationVacations experience
is cancelled or rescheduled prior to 14-days of the scheduled
VocationVacations holiday, based on the approved availability of the
mentor to reschedule. A VocationVacations adventure cannot be
rescheduled and is non-refundable if cancelled within 14 days of the
scheduled VocationVacations holiday. Written notification of
cancellation or rescheduling is required in all cases. In the US,
Grounded Nomads, LLC and VocationVacations holidays encourage all
customers to acquire travel insurance to cover any unforeseen expenses
due to cancellation or rescheduling. In the UK, Grounded Nomads, Ltd
and VocationVacations holidays must require all customers to acquire
travel insurance to cover any unforeseen expenses due to cancellation
or rescheduling and provide verification of such travel insurance to
Grounded Nomads, Ltd.
