You’d literally rather teach an old dog new tricks versus teaching that old boss a thing or two. Well, then it’s time to test-drive your dream job as a Dog Trainer with Jamie Damato at Animal Sense in Chicago!

Jamie has been an animal lover her entire life and has integrated her love for animals with her career quite successfully. After attending DePaul University, majoring in Psychology and Communications, she worked as a Social Worker and Case Manager for a not-for-profit where she introduced a pet therapy program. Soon after, she founded her own dog walking business, “Out You Go!”  Little did she know that she would walk herself into a great career as one of Chicago’s most-respected dog trainers. She graduated from the Arizona Canine Academy in 1999 and has been training ever since. In 2000 she started Animal Sense and has grown the business to include a staff of seven trainers and full-time office staff that offers over 25 classes a week! 

In addition to running the day-to-day business, Jamie and her staff believe that giving back to the community is a necessity. Hence, they recently adopted the City of Chicago’s Animal Care and Control as their philanthropic cause. Every week the staff meets at the shelter to assist with temperament testing of stray dogs to help find the most appropriate home for each homeless dog. Jamie herself rescues, fosters and “re-homes” several dogs each year.

Jamie is currently working on her first book about her vocational passion entitled Dogs at Play: A Guide for Non-Dogs (Humans!). She is also a frequent guest on ABC 7 News Chicago as the local Dog Expert!

While on your Dog Trainer VocationVacations® dream job holiday Jamie will mentor you in some or all of the following activities:

• Evaluate and field client calls to the office, register clients for classes or private consult
• Learn how to counsel and support dog owners experiencing difficulties with their pet
• Attend dog obedience classes, plus assist in preparation and class activities with dogs of all ages (puppies through advanced adults)
• Attend a private training session
• Determine when to refer a client to a Veterinarian to rule out potential medical issues
• Discuss dog training methods and equipment
